Pear-shaped diamond

The pear shape combines a rounded end with a defined point. Its brilliant-cut teardrop silhouette can be worn with the point facing up or down, depending on the ring design.

Balance in the outline

The two sides should mirror one another. The rounded end should have soft, even shoulders, and the point should align with the centre. The length-to-width ratio determines whether the shape feels full or long.

Bow tie and light

Pear-shaped diamonds may show a darker bow-tie area across the centre. View it in more than one type of light and in motion. A report value cannot fully describe this pattern.

Protect the point

The point is the shape’s most exposed area and should be protected by a V-prong or another setting that encloses it. Ask about any inclusions near the point.
