Princess-cut diamond

A princess is a square modified brilliant cut with defined, pointed corners. It combines a graphic outline with a lively facet pattern.

Appearance and proportion

Most princess diamonds are close to square, but small variations in length and width affect symmetry. Facet patterns vary between stones and should be judged in motion, not from the report alone.

What to compare

• Whether the corners and sides are evenly formed.
• How light and dark areas are distributed across the stone.
• Polish and symmetry in the report.
• Whether an inclusion lies close to a corner.
• How the stone looks in the chosen setting.

Protect the corners

The four points of a princess cut are exposed. The setting should enclose or protect every corner, often with V-shaped or secure corner prongs. Check the prongs regularly if the ring is worn every day.
