Radiant-cut diamond

A radiant combines a square or rectangular outline with cropped corners and a brilliant facet pattern. It produces livelier light than a step-cut emerald shape.

Square or rectangular

The length-to-width ratio visibly changes the shape. A nearly square radiant has a different character from a long rectangle. Both can be well proportioned; the choice is visual.

Facet patterns vary

Radiant cuts can use different facet arrangements. Look for an even distribution of light and notice whether dark areas remain still or move as the stone is tilted. The report does not describe the complete visual pattern.

• Measurements and carat weight.
• Polish and symmetry.

Setting

The cropped corners are less exposed than the sharp corners of a princess cut, but every corner should still be supported. The shape works as a solitaire, with a halo or with side stones.
